'Ulyssees Eye' - Coming Exhibition in June 2013

Nationally Renowned Artist Helen Norton In Kalamunda

This June, nationally renowned artist Helen Norton’s artwork will be featured at the Ulysses Eye Solo Exhibition at the Zig Zag Cultural Center.

Helen Norton spent many early years living in desert locations around Australia, driven by a tireless thirst for discovery and adventure. She says, that becoming an artist was not a plan; more so a happy evolvement of that thirst.

In this body of work, she has taken a side step away from using many characters to tell her narrative; instead embracing the landscape itself as the narrative. “I didn’t plan and drive the narrative this time; I let the paint have a discussion with images of a long distance landscape; looking out, as if ‘through’, Ulysses eye, caught between the seduction of natures raw beauty, and his sense of longing to get back home after long wars.” said Helen Norton.

“Just by looking at the ongoing list of numerous awards and solo and joint exhibitions, having Helen guest appear at a local exhibition is a honour.” said Acting CEO Rhonda Hardy.

“Helens talent in her early work was immediately recognised. She was chosen to design two front covers of the Qantas in-flight magazine, appeared in an exhibition on the QE2 and had been featured in numerous exhibitions in London, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.”

Throughout the duration of her career, Helen has featured in 49 solo exhibitions across the world with the Ulysses Eye Solo Exhibition being her 50th show.

From 1988 to 1999 Helen also has won over 25 awards for her artwork.

“Seeing Helen’s journey and imagination expressed in her artwork is amazing and we are extremely lucky to have her feature in a local art gallery.”

The Uylsses Eye Exhibition will be held from 1 to 30 of June 2013 at the Zig Zag Cultural Center located at 50 Railway Road, Kalamunda. Contact Helen Norton Art at info@helennorton.com.au or visit www.helennorton.com.au

Dangerous Shores 2021
Dangerous Shores 2021

In the major work "The Dangerous Shores", I play with the memory of the Garden of Eden - and whether we need to return or learn from the idea of a raw and magnificent wilderness that man has not yet disturbed and spoiled. The question can't be answered fairly unless we throw in the imaginary (spiritual and creative aspects of human thought and direction) as well as the archeological evidence of our past.
